Aïcha MUTEBA

Artist from Kinshasa, currently in residence in the city of Goma. He works on the theme of modern  colonialism by integrating the notion of lost paradise. The dream then becomes an expedient to find  the promised land.

The fact that this search is central to the practice of an artist who lives and works in the Congo bears  witness to the fact that Africa is a continent in constant evolution.

One can live and dream of a fantasised past there, as anywhere else. Time is not frozen there.

His work seems all the more relevant as the question of the contemporaneity of colonialism in our  societies is very current.

For the Congolisation festival, Aïcha proposes a series of acrylic paintings and pastels on canvas in  different formats. His style is immediately recognisable: colourful faces and oversized mouths with  large teeth, a checkerboard pattern, the presence of nature or backgrounds with slashed colours.
